Eight weighted factors measure color separation, anchors, repetition, low-information areas, textures, boundaries, detail, and structure.
International Puzzle Rating Association
Puzzle Challenge is a standardized 1–10 difficulty rating for 1,000-piece adult jigsaw puzzles, based on the artwork and the production cut.

A common language for difficulty
IPRA separates the visual difficulty of the image from the effects of the piece cut, then combines them into a Total Solve Difficulty score.
01
Eight weighted factors measure color separation, anchors, repetition, low-information areas, textures, boundaries, detail, and structure.
02
The actual cut can raise or lower difficulty, especially where the artwork gives the solver fewer reliable clues.
03
Two evaluators score every eligible puzzle, with adjudication when their conclusions differ materially.
Puzzle Challenge 1–10
The scale describes the experience a solver should expect. Higher is harder, not better.
Protect the integrity of the mark
Every legitimate IPRA medallion is tied to one puzzle and one public record. An absent or mismatched record is not a valid rating.
