International Puzzle Rating Association

Frequently Asked Questions

What puzzles are eligible?

Version 1 covers only 1,000-piece adult jigsaw puzzles with conventional two-dimensional assembly.

Does a higher score mean a better puzzle?

No. A higher score means a harder expected solve. It is not a quality ranking or recommendation.

Does IPRA rate the artwork or the piece cut?

Both. Artwork Difficulty supplies the base score. The actual piece cut can increase or reduce difficulty depending on how much ambiguity exists in the artwork.

Can two puzzles with similar artwork receive different ratings?

Yes. Differences in color separation, image structure, production cut, or other rated factors can change the Total Solve Difficulty.

What happens if a rated puzzle changes?

A material change to artwork, piece count, dimensions, or cut requires a new submission. The original Rating ID remains in the historical record.

Can a brand appeal a decision?

A brand may request one documented reconsideration within 30 days and must identify a factual error, missing evidence, or scoring inconsistency.

How do I verify a medallion?

Use the Verify a Rating page and enter the complete Rating ID displayed with the medallion.
